Abstract

This research is entitled Changes in Past and Present Forms of Kayat Performance in Rantau Kuantan. The problem discussed in this study is how the changes in past and present forms of Kayat performance in Rantau Kuantan in the Kuanan Sengingi Regency community. Then the data collected by means or methods of observation, interviews, and documentation. The venue for Past and Present Kayat Performances In Rantau Kuantan it depends on the host wanting to do the show only, if the Kayat Show in the past could be inside the house or on the home page, but now Kayat is on stage. In the past, Kayat can be done during the day and at night depending on the host, and if Kayat Now is done at night Kayat In the past it was shown only using lapiak or dancing and only using Dobat musical instruments or drums, Kayat Now shows using a keyboard musical instrument, saluang and others. In this research the types and sources of data obtained are using descriptive analysis methods that need to be observed. The theory used in this research is the theory of Rohidi (1994: 48) which states that cultural change or development is strongly influenced by an increase in population, changes in the natural geographical environment, the influence of cultural contacts, new discoveries, cultural borrowers and recipients of new cultural elements.
