Abstract

This study aims to determine the profile of the level of critical thinking skills of science students based on a gender perspective in solving problems in the daily test questions on environmental pollution material at the MTs level in the form of descriptive research. The instrument used was a matter of critical thinking on environmental pollution material made with reference to the 2016 revised curriculum teaching materials and interviews. This study used a saturated sample that included all 109 students of class VIII1, VIII2, VIII3, and VIII4 of MTs Hasanah Pekanbaru. The results showed that the critical thinking ability of male students was included in the less critical category with a percentage of 55% and the critical thinking ability of female students was included in the less critical category with a percentage of 58%. The highest percentage of male students' critical thinking skills is in the clarity indicator with a percentage of 77.2% in the critical category. Meanwhile, the lowest percentage of male students' critical thinking skills was on the focus indicator with a percentage of 41.9% being in the very less critical category. Meanwhile, the highest percentage of female students' critical thinking skills was also in the clarity indicator with a percentage of 74.1% being in the critical category. Meanwhile, the lowest percentage of female students' critical thinking skills was at the conclusion indicator with a percentage of 47.4% including the less critical category. From the results of this study it can be concluded that students of MTs Hasanah Pekanbaru in the academic year 2020/2021 have critical thinking skills in the low category.
