Abstract
This research is motivated by a visible phenomenon, namely: there are still some students who do not take part in learning, students are less active, students rarely ask or respond to teacher questions. Textbooks are often left at home. This symptom can arise because of a lack of encouragement and the role of parents as teachers at home cannot maximize helping students' obstacles in problems at school. The formulation of the problems in this study are 1) What is the role of parents' guidance in helping students study at home? 2) How is the Indonesian learning achievement achieved by students of SMPN 5 Siak Hulu ?, 3) Is there a significant relationship between the role of parents in helping to study at home towards the Indonesian learning achievement of grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 5 Siak Hulu ?. Research objectives 1) To describe, analyze, and interpret the role of parents' guidance in helping study at home; 2) To describe, analyze, and interpret how the Indonesian language learning achievements are achieved by students in class VIII SMPN 5 Siak Hulu; 3) To describe, analyze, and interpret whether there is a significant relationship between the role of parental guidance in helping students learn at home to the Indonesian achievement of grade VII students of SMPN 5 Siak Hulu. The author uses the theory of William Stainback and Susan Stainback. While the research methodology uses the correlation method with a quantitative approach, namely the relationship between two or more variables, which is a way that aims to determine whether there is a relationship between the role of parents (X) and Indonesian learning achievement (Y). Based on the results of the study, it is known that: 1) The role of parents helping study at home is classified as moderate, namely as many as 21 out of 31 people or 67.8%. This means that parents have helped their students study at home; 2) Student achievement of class VIII SMPN 5 Siak Hulu is classified as moderate, namely 24 out of 31 people or 77.4%. This means that the learning outcomes obtained by students in participating in Indonesian language learning get sufficient grades, namely 80–85; 3) There is no significant relationship, if the significance <0.05, then the variance of the data group is not the same, on the contrary, if the significance> 0.05, then the variance of the data group is the same. So the significance value (0.811> 0.05) means that Ho is accepted, meaning that there is no significant relationship between the role of parents in helping learning and learning outcomes, because the coefficient of value is negative, it means that the role of parents in helping learning has a negative and insignificant relationship with learning outcomes.
