Abstract

Film is a representation of expression in the form of art that combining several elements of art such as photography, fine arts, literary arts, music and dance. From film we can see a reflection of real life, in other words film becomes a representation of reality. The struggle of women when fighting oppression by men, shown through film scenes. This research discuss about film Marlina The Murderer In Four Acts which shows how the struggle of women in rural Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara in maintaining respectabiliy and struggle for justice. It prove that violence against women still exist. This research aims to determine the representation of feminist in the Marlina The Murderer In Four Acts using qualitative research methods with John Fiske's semiotic analysis through three levels of code, such as level of reality that can be seen from the environment and behavior. Level of representation that can be seen from conflicts, actions and cameras. And level of ideology that can be seen is feminism. Data collection techniques such as observation, documentation and interview. The results through these three levels are dominated by behavior, environment, action, camera, and feminism. The resistance of women featured in this film remind us that violence against women is still exist. Scenes that represent sexual harassment, violence against women, and other activities that can injure women in this film are proves feminism has not reached all people especially in isolated areas. Through this film explained that feminism is in the women’s mind.
