Abstract

The Riau Pos newspaper is one of the mass media published in the city of Pekanbaru where in the editorial there are many referential and non-referential meanings, but not all words in the editorial contain both referential and non-referential meanings. The problems in this study are (1) What is the referential meaning contained in the Riau Pos newspaper editorial ?, (2) What is the non-referential meaning contained in the Riau Pos newspaper editorial ?. The purpose of this study is to describe, analyze, interpret, and conclude the referential and non-referential meanings contained in the Riau Pos newspaper editorial. This research method uses the content analysis method. The data source of this research is the editorial of the Riau Pos newspaper edition 1 to 31 January 2019. The approach used in this study is qualitative. This type of research is literature study research. From the results of data processing collected in this study, namely: (1) the referential meaning contained in the Riau Pos newspaper editorial editorial, (2) the non-referential meaning contained in the Riau Pos editorial editorial. referential meanings contained in the Riau Pos newspaper editorial totaled 49, while non-referential totaled 39. From the above explanation referential meaning is found more than non-referential meaning.
