Abstract
The presence of the internet at this time has changed a lot, one of which is the social media that is widely used and has an interest is Instagram which is an application for sharing photos and videos, with Instagram Stories features used by universities, namely female lecturers at Riau Islamic University in utilizing to share personal moments. The purpose of this study was to determine the motives for using Instagram Stories by female lecturers in publishing activities or routines that were being carried out. This research is motivated by the tendency of female lecturers to use Instagram Stories as a place to upload their privacy but not as teaching staff. The theory used in this study is the phenomenology of Alfred Schutz using descriptive qualitative research methods and the determination of the six informants based on purposive sampling using data collection through in-depth interviews, observations and documentation analyzed through the process of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results in this study are related to Because Motive (Past Motif) which refers to past actions as the causes of these actions, namely the motive of capturing moments, and hobby motives. The tendency of female lecturers at the Riau Islamic University to do Instagram Stories is also pursuing pleasure, this is evident from In Order To Motive, which refers to future actions so as to achieve the actor's desire with some of his actions, namely entertainment motives, trend motives, and self-existence motives.
