Abstract

Singing can be said to be the easiest musical activity done by everyone because it is practical and does not require mediation to do it Even so singing requires the rule of vocal techniques to be able to sing well. Kawih is part of a variety of vocals in the Sundanese musicians whose existence is now inadequately elevated and even the younger generation who live in big cities are less interested in learning it. The purpose of this study was to know the teaching of vocal techniques applied in the UPI music department in singing kawih sunda songs. Method used in this study is a descriptive method using paradigm qualitative. The data collection technique uses several techniques, including observation techniques, interview techniques and documentation techniques. Kawih has elements of music, literature and has song notation. Gayumum is influenced by the habits of a pesinden in presenting songs that are considered to be pesinden. The style in the presentation of kawih refers to the methods of certain pesinden in bringing the decoration of the song. In the review of the kawih, the word style is applied to distinguish between the modes of singing and the vocalist, who has a distinctive character.
