Abstract

This study is motivated by the low speaking skills of students in learning Islamic studies in the classroom. The low students’ speaking skills in this context mean the lack of communication between teachers and students, students and teachers, and students to other students in the classroom, especially in learning Islamic Studies. The problem formulation of this study whether there is an influence of question and answer method on students’ speaking skills in learning Islamic Studies in grade X at SMAN 2 Tualang, Siak Regency. The aim of this study is to investigate the influence of question and answer method on students' speaking skills in learning Islamic Studies in grade X at SMA Negeri 2 Tualang, Siak Regency. The type of this study is quantitative research with a correlation approach. The population of this study is all students in grade X at SMA Negeri 2 Tualang Siak Regency as many as 112 students. Because the population is more than 100, so the sample taken is based on the Slovin formula consisting of 88 students. The research instrument used is questionnaires. This study has two variables, namely the Question and Answer Method (Variable X) and the Speaking Skills (Variable Y). The results of this study show that there is an influence of Question and Answer Method on Students’ Speaking Skills. It can be seen from the results of data processing performed by IBM SPSS Statistics version 24 that the simple regression analysis obtained a significance value less than 0.05, or 0.000 < 0.05, then Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. The magnitude of the level of influence between the Question and Answer Method (Variable X) and the Students’ Speaking Skills (Variable Y) is 0.274 which lies in the range 0.20-0.399, or in the low category. While the remaining 75.3% is influenced by other variables not examined in this study. In conclusion, there is an influence of question and answer method on students' speaking skills in learning Islamic Studies in grade X at SMAN 2 Tualang, Siak Regency which is included in the low category.
