Abstract

The well development carried out in the "Z" field is to drill wells that already have wells, for drilling with directional or horizontal wells, to require rotators with greater power and torque to be able to destroy more rotating power big to the drill bit. In this study the most suitable and the latest technology of rotators is the Top Drive unit which is contracted separately from the unit of the rig itself, where the top drive has its own performance and system from the rotary table. The research aims to compare drilling costs for each between drilling using top drives and rotary tables, two wells were used as material for analysis and a comparison of one using top drives and one using a rotary table for various depths in each. By comparing the top drive system with the rotary table system from 2 wells drilled, saving the time obtained from the conncetion and tripping proccess is equal to T total T total = 106.5 – 59.75 = 46.75 hr. More eficient is the use of top drive from the rotary table. On pipe size 17-1/2” the top drive system takes longer when the connection is due to the arrangement of the pipes into 2 joints. But at the time of tripping it was far supperior to using the rotary table. From the average cost produced with the same depth, top drive are far more eficient than the rotary table. With the difference in cost as much as 13641.35$.
