Abstract
Education is the right of all people who aim to increase the learning potential of students to become better human beings because it requires high motivation and support from various parties as role in the learning process activities. Internal and external encouragement on students who are doing the learning process to improve student behavior so that it raises some indicators or elements that support the process. This study aims to determine the difference between Chinese and Malays student motivation at SMAN 1 Bengkalis. The method of collecting data uses a questionnaire, the scale used in this study is a learning motivation scale containing of 44 items. This study involved 100 Chinese and Malay ethnic by using simple random techniques. The result of this study indicates that there are differences in learning motivation between Chinese and Malay ethnic groups as showed by the value t = 3,095. P> 0.005 = 0.003. Thus the hypothesis is accepted and educators need to find ways to increase student learning motivation.
