Abstract

The research was conducted for 14 days starting on February 8 - February 21, 2019 at the Balai Benih Ikan (BBI) Faculty of Agriculture, Riau Islamic University, Pekanbaru. In aquaculture business the cost of feed is very large 60-70% of production costs, so alternative feeds need to be sought to reduce feed costs. Maggot is BSF (Black Soldier Fly) fly larva that has a high protein content and is easily available. This study aims to determine the effect of a combination of coconut pulp and fermented chicken manure on the growth and production of maggot as an alternative to fish feed, as well as to find the best combination percentage. The method used in this study is an experimental randomized complete method (RAL) with 5 treatments and 3 replications, namely P1: 100% chicken manure, P2: 25% coconut pulp + 75% chicken manure, P3: 50% coconut pulp + 50% chicken manure, P4: P2: 75% coconut pulp + 25% chicken manure and P5: 100% coconut pulp. Fly eggs obtained from BSF (Black Soldier Fly) fly culture placed in the media grow as much as 0.1 gr. The main parameters discussed in this study are maggot growth including weight and length and production calculated at the end of the study. Supporting parameters discussed are the protein content in maggot and the conditions of the growing media used include measurements of temperature, humidity and pH. iv The results obtained by the growth of maggot weight on P1: 0.09 gr, P2: 0.12 gr, P3: 0.13 gr, P4: 0.14 gr and P5: 0.06 gr. Growth of maggot P1 length: 1.19 cm, P2: 1.32 cm, P3: 1.39 cm, P4: 1.45 cm and P5: 1.10 cm. Specific growth rate (SGR) of the maggot treatment P1: 0.61%, P2: 0.89%, P3: 0.96%, P4: 1.03% and P5: 0.45%. Maggot production during the study was P1: 62.7 gr, P2: 93.7 gr, P3: 95.7 gr, P4: 96.7 gr and P5: 55.3 gr. Descriptively the highest average growth and production of maggot are P4, P3, P2, P1 and P5. Statistical analysis of variance analysis (ANOVA) showed that there was a very real effect and continued BNT test. The average weight, length, daily growth rate (SGR) and maggot production in treatments P1 and P5 differed significantly from those of P2, P3 and P4. This shows that there is a positive influence from the combination of coconut pulp and chicken manure. In addition, the maggot protein content is almost close to the protein content found in the growing media. The maggot protein content in treatment P1: 25.70%, P2: 19.44%, P3: 19.00%, P4: 18.24% and P5: 17.13%. While the condition of growing media temperature ranges from 28 - 34oC, humidity 60 - 75% and pH 6.6 - 6.9.
