Abstract

To ensure food security, so it needs to increase crop acreage, production and productivity of paddy. This study aims to analyze the development of the land area, production and productivity of paddy and analyzes the factors that influence the supply and demand of rice. Survey method was used and type of data was time series from 1987-2016 and located in Indragiri Hilir District. Simultaneous equation model and 2 SLS (Two Stage Least Square) estimator were used. The results showed that the average area harvested from 1987-2016 decreased by 125,443.00 ha or 11.26%, production decreased by 447,036.00 or 9.87%, the productivity of 3.60 tons / ha or decreased by 1.37%. Factors that were affected to supply and demand of rice, among others, (1) the price of grain and the amount of labor utilization significantly affected harvest area with R2 73.98%; (2) harvest area and paddy production significantly affect the productivity of paddy with R2 46.08% (3) the amount of imported rice and the rice production significantly affected on the demand for rice with R2 99.30% (4) the amount of per capita income and the amount of demand for the previous year was also affected of rice demand with a value of R2 85.16%
