Abstract

This research is motivated by the IDX Channel news which states that the level of politeness of Indonesian netizens in using social media, especially in providing comments, is the lowest in Southeast Asia because based on a survey Indonesia is ranked 29th out of 32 countries. The purpose of this study is to explore and elaborate the politeness scale in the speech of netizens in the comments column of Anies Baswedan's twitter account. The theory to determine this problem uses the theory of Leech (2005). The method used is content analysis. The data collection technique used is the technique of documentation and free-to-talk. The data analysis technique used is content analysis according to Burhan Bugin. The technique of checking the validity of the data that the author uses is the technique of checking the reliability and checking the validity. In accordance with the distribution of the data above, it can be concluded that the speech of netizens in Anies Baswedan's twitter account belongs to the category of polite speech. Thus, the results of research data with the distribution of IDX Channel news are not in line. It should be noted that politeness in speech is sometimes influenced by several factors, one of which is the account owner's post that makes netizens argue politely and not politely. Besides that, there is also a reason why netizens can make impolite comments because of a lack of respect for one another.
