Abstract

This study is motivated by the low concentration of students in learning the subject of Islamic Cultural History at MTsN 3 Pekanbaru. Learning concentration is very important and it needs to be instilled in students. Students should be able to concentrate during the teaching and learning process. Considering that there have been a lot of studies carried out in the efforts to increase students’ learning concentration, so the reseacher did a direct observation at MTsN 3 Pekanbaru on March 7th, 2023. According to the observation, it is necessary for teachers to take action to find out and pave the way for solving problems that arise. The problem formulation of the study is to determine the students’ learning concentration, the factors that influence learning concentration and the teachers’ efforts in increasing students’ concentration in learning Islamic Cultural History at MTsN 3 Pekanbaru. This is field research, which means an investigation carried out in real life or objects. The type of the study is descriptive qualitative research. The data collection techniques of the study are observation, interviews, documentation, and the data analysis technique of the study is an interactive analysis proposed by the Millen and Huberman model which consists of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The students’ learning concentration is caused by many things, one of which is the learning method applied by the teachers. The students can concentrate more when the teachers use learning media rather than applying conventional methods. The factors that influence students’ concentration when studying at MTsN 3 Pekanbaru during study are internal factors such as students having breakfast before going to school, getting enough rest, and repeating lessons at home. In addition, the external factors are such as methods and media used by the teachers, teacher attention and motivation. The efforts made by the teachers at MTsN 3 Pekanbaru to increase students’ concentration include checking students’ learning readiness, instilling interest and motivation to learn, applying interesting learning methods and models, mastering material and classes, creating conducive learning environment, and motivating students to be active.
