Abstract

This research was motivated by the issue of student engagement in learning among seventh-grade students at Islamic Junior High School Al-Kautsar Pekanbaru, such as some students being less active in learning because they were reluctant to ask questions or express opinions, and some students even slept during lessons. This study aimed to determine the influence of demonstration method on the learning engagement of seventh-grade students at Islamic Junior High School Al-Kautsar Pekanbaru. This type of research was quantitative with a correlational approach. The sample consisted of 88 students. Data collection techniques included questionnaires and documentation. This study consisted of two variables: X (demonstration method) and Y (learning engagement). From this research, it was found that the hypothesis test results showed a value of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating that there was an influence of demonstration method on the learning engagement of seventh-grade students at Islamic Junior High School AlKautsar Pekanbaru. The extent of the influence could be seen in the summary table with an R square value of 0.501 or 50.1%. This indicated that the learning engagement of students was influenced by demonstration method by 50.1%, categorized as "Moderate." Thus, the conclusion of this research was that there was an influence of demonstration method on the learning engagement of seventhgrade students at Islamic Junior High School Al-Kautsar Pekanbaru. Therefore, it was very important to increase student engagement in learning by using demonstration method to further enhance their engagement. Furthermore, other researchers were encouraged to conduct further studies with different and newer teaching methods to find other factors that could increase student engagement in learning beyond demonstration method used in this study.
