Abstract
This research aims to obtain mechanical properties and composition The optimum combination of variations in palm frond fiber and powder aluminum and polyester resin as brake lining materials. Stages of this research Starting from making samples, then testing the samples consisting of Brinell hardness test, Ogoshi wear test, tensile strength test and test microstructure. Based on the results of research that has been carried out on a mixture of palm frond fiber, aluminum powder and polyester resin, The lowest hardness is at a composition of 60% palm frond: 20% Al powder: 30% Polyester with a value of 38.2 kg/mm2, when compared with SAE standard with a value of 68 HR which is converted to Brinell to 33 BHN, This hardness value has not reached the SAE standard. In the wear test results, each samples have wear values ??lower than SAE standards. Wear value the lowest is at a composition of 60% palm frond: 10% Al: 30% Polyester with a value of 0.9342x10-7 mm2/kg. For tensile tests, each sample has a very high modulus of elasticity value from the SAE standard. Mark The lowest modulus of elasticity is at a composition of 50% palm frond: 20% Al : 30% resin of 1456.65 MPa. Meanwhile, the microstructure test of of the three samples, sample 1 has the best cross-sectional structure because the mixture of constituent ingredients is quite even.
