Abstract
At this time, individuals who have achieved financial independence can encourage individuals to be more consumptive. Consumptive life patterns can cause individuals to have no consideration and only follow emotional impulses when making decisions to buy. One of the signs of individuals who experience consumptive behavior is the occurrence of impulsive buying behavior. This research was conducted to find out how the influence of fear of missing out (FOMO) on impulsive buying, how the influence of self-control on impulsive buying and how self-control acts as a moderator between the effects of fear of missing out (FOMO) on impulsive buying. The population in this study were temporary employees who worked in Kuantan Singingi Regency with a total sample of 355 people. Measuring tools used in this study is to use the impulse buying scale, fear of missing out scale and brief self-control scale. The hypothesis was tested using the Structural Equation Model (SEM) path analysis method with the Partial Least Square (PLS) method. The results of the analysis show that FOMO has a significantly positive effect on impulsive buying with a t-statistic value of 7.950 > 1.67, which means that when fear of missing out (FOMO) increases, impulsive buying behavior will also increase, then self-control has a significant negative effect. towards impulsive buying with a t-statistic value of 8.359 > 1.67, which means that when self-control increases, the impulsive buying behavior will decrease. and self-control is able to moderate the effect of fear of missing out (FOMO) on impulsive buying with a t-statistic value of 2.399 > 1.67, which means that the role of self-control can strengthen the effect of fear of missing out (FOMO) on impulsive buying.
