Abstract
The presence of social media in this digital era has an impact on the ease of finding various information, including educational information which is widely accessed by students to support academic needs. However, one of the problematic issues that arises is that social media also has a negative impact through content that is not suitable for consumption by school students. As an effort to overcome this problem, community service activities carry the theme of empowering local wisdom values in utilizing social media as a source of educational information for students of SMAN 1 Siak Kecil, Bengkalis Regency. The aim of this service is to provide counseling about the values of local Malay cultural wisdom to students of SMAN 1 Siak Kecil in the application of searching for educational information via social media. The method for implementing this activity is counseling which consists of presenting material by resource persons, discussions and questions and answers. The content of the material presented is the introduction and application of basic Malay cultural values in the use of social media as a source of educational information. The results of the service activities found that qualitatively students who took part in the service were able to know and understand 1) the positive and negative impacts of social media, 2) the philosophy and principles of educational values, local Malay wisdom and customs, 3) the wisdom and etiquette of studying Malay culture.
