Abstract

Permissive parenting is a parenting pattern that in general will provide opportunities for children to do everything unless it does not really help the child's personality development. Permissive parenting will greatly affect the hedonic lifestyle in adolescents because it creates an impulsive, aggressive, arrogant, and socially immature personality. The family plays the biggest and longest role in shaping individual attitudes and behavior. This study aims to determine the relationship between permissive parenting and hedonic lifestyle in high school teenagers in Pekanbaru. This study involved 183 high school students in Pekanbaru who were selected by stratified random sampling technique. The measuring instrument used in this study is the permissive parenting scale of 22 items compiled by Erika Surya (2019) and the hedonic lifestyle scale of 22 items compiled by Zulfika Mailinda (2017). Data analysis using Pearson product moment correlation analysis technique obtained a coefficient of r = 0.581. This shows a positive correlation between the hedonistic lifestyle and the permissive parenting style of high school students in Pekanbaru.
