Abstract

This research was motivated by the IDX Channel news, which said that Indonesian netizens were the most impolite in Southeast Asia and Indonesia was ranked 29th out of 32 countries in the world. The formulation of the research problem is, what is the politeness scale in the 1 Hour 1000 Messages program on Youtube VDVC talk? The purpose of this study was to obtain information, describe, and analyze the politeness scale in the 1 Hour 1000 Messages program on Youtube VDVC Talk. The theory used as the basis is Leech, Chaer (2010). The method used is content analysis method. The approach used is a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques used documentation techniques, expert free listening techniques, in conducting this research the authors were not involved in it, and note taking techniques. Data analysis techniques used content analysis techniques according to Burhan Bungin. Data validity checking techniques use checking the reliability and checking the validity techniques. The results of the research from 98 speech data after being analyzed became 129 speech data. Of the 129 speech data, there are 10 speech data on the scale of losses and gains, 15 speech data on the choice scale, 32 speech data on the indirectness scale, 15 speech data on the last authority scale, 57 speech data on the social distance scale. Of the 129 speech data, 91 speech data are polite and 38 are impolite. . Based on the data obtained, the 1 Hour 1000 Messages program on YouTube VDVC Talk is included in the polite category. The cause of impolite speech can occur because it is influenced by several factors, one of which is the lack of respect for each other, as well as the topic of conversation being discussed.
