Abstract
Concrete is used as a construction material that is often needed in construction. Concrete is made by mixing water, cement, sand, gravel and mixed with chemicals and other added fiber materials. Indonesia is a country that has very large plantations. When production is abundant, it will produce a lot of waste. Disposal of waste such as coconut shells is an environmental taboo. If this problem continues, then over time the volume of coconut shell waste will increase. This study aims to utilize coconut shell waste as a substitute for cement.Coconut shell ash used as a substitute for cement with variations used were 0%, 2%, 3%, 4% and 5% of the cement weight. The test object used is a cylinder with a diameter of 15 cm and a height of 30 cm for testing the compressive strength and tensile strength of concrete. The research method used in this research is experimental in accordance with SNI-03-2834-2000 for concrete design. Based on the research of concrete using a mixture of coconut shell ash, the results of testing the compressive strength of normal concrete are 28,686 Mpa, concrete with coconut shell ash substitution variations of 2%, 3%, 4% and 5% respectively are 28,780 Mpa, 22,929 Mpa, 22,522 and 20,476 Mpa . The results of testing the split tensile strength of normal concrete are 3.326 Mpa, concrete with coconut shell ash substitution variations of 2%, 3%, 4% and 5% respectively are 2.878 Mpa, 2.784 Mpa, 2.642 Mpa and 2.595 Mpa the variation of coconut shell ash content is the most Optimal in this study is the substitution of 2% of the weight of cement. It is proven that in this variation there is an increase in the value of the compressive strength of concrete from normal concrete. Based on this research, concrete using a mixture of coconut shell ash cannot be used for heavy construction, but coconut shell ash can be used in light construction works.
