Abstract

This study aims to analyze errors using Newman's theory carried out by students in solving problems in flat side space building materials. The type of research used is qualitative descriptive research. The subjects of the study were 30 students of grade IX of SMP N 17 Pekanbaru. The data collection technique in this study is a test technique using a description test instrument and a non-test technique in the form of interview guidelines and documentation. Data analysis techniques are carried out by going through several stages which include data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Based on the results of the study obtained that; (1) Students who make mistakes with high criteria generally experience misunderstanding errors, process skill errors, and final answer writing errors (2) Students who make mistakes with moderate criteria generally experience transformation errors, process skills, and final answer writing errors (3) Students who make mistakes with low criteria generally experience reading errors, understanding errors, transformation errors, process skill errors, and final answer writing errors.
