Abstract

Regions that have a growth rate of development are Peri-Urban areas which are a transition from urban areas and rural areas that have different characteristics and attributes. The spread of urban development to suburban areas caused by limited land and the existence of rural activities which gave rise to the development of peri-urban areas. The development of settlements on the outskirts of the city occurs in several areas, one of which is located in Tebing Tinggi Barat District, Meranti Islands Regency. That is what underlies this research so that it becomes the goal of knowing the development of existing settlements in the Peri Urban Area of ??Tebing Tinggi Barat District. This research was conducted using a quantitative descriptive method where the population in this study was built-up land in Tebing Tinggi Barat District with the sample being the community in West Tebing Tinggi District with representatives of the number of households. Data collection was obtained through existing data and field observations. Based on the research results, in the development of settlements in the Peri-Urban Region in Tebing Tinggi Barat District in 2010-2020, rapid land development occurred in 2020 which reached 1.2% of the total land area of ??587.33 Km2. Whereas in 2010, built-up land was less than 52% of built-up land in 2020. In the pattern of settlement development in the Perumbi Road Corridor, there are two patterns, namely following the Perumbi Road Section and spread out, where the largest period of change in built-up land occurred in 2020 of 1,264 Km2 which is much larger than in 2010 due to population growth and inadequate land area in urban areas. As well as in the Analysis of Factors that influence the development of settlements in Tebing Tinggi Barat District, there is one factor that really influences it, namely the regional topography factor in Tebing Tinggi Barat Subdistrict which has peatland and swamp conditions making it difficult to carry out development.
