Abstract
Incidents experienced by individuals may not be separated from the relationship between him and others, the relationship is carried out in order to achieve goals and fulfillment of needs. When building relationships with other people coincidentally everyone has a different perspective, one of them is the strict character emerges from within the individual or also called assertive. One of the things that influence assertive behavior is culture. This study aims to find out if there is any difference of assertiveness between Minangnese and Bataknese students. The subjects of this study are 270 Islamic University of Riau students which used random sampling techniques. The instrument of this study uses the assertiveness scale. Meanwhile, the data were analyzed using t-Test analysis and computerized with the SPSS version 23.0 for windows. Based on the analysis test obtained F value = 2.123 and p = 0.000 (p <0.05). This shows that there are significant differences of assertiveness between Minangnese and Bataknese where Bataknese is more assertive than the Minangnese.
