Abstract

This type of research is quantitative descriptive which aims to determine the effect of students' interest and motivation on the decision to choose a cross-interest economic program at Pekanbaru 8 Pekanbaru Academic Year 2018/2019. The subjects taken by the researchers in this study were 9 classes in class X MIPA at SMAN 8 Pekanbaru representing 20 students in each class so that the subjects taken amounted to 180 students. Sampling using ramdom sampling techniques. The variable used by the researcher in this study is the interest and motivation of students as independent variables and the decision to choose a cross-interest program as a dependent variable. The data collection technique used was a questionnaire (questionnaire). Based on the results of data analysis obtained, it can be concluded that there is a significant influence between students' interests and motivation both partially and jointly at SMAN 8 Pekanbaru. The results of the calculation of the coefficient of determination are known to be an effective contribution of 0.151 or equal to 15.1%, while the remaining 84.9% is influenced by other factors not mentioned in this study. And it is suggested for students as a reference to make more decisions based on their interests and motivations, while the next researcher is expected to be able to add or look for other factors that cause student decision making towards cross-interest economic programmaking.
