Abstract

A teacher is one of the important factors in implementing education at school. Therefore, it is crucial to improve the quality of teachers not only in terms of their welfare, but also their professionalism. Professionalism is the quality or status of a professional person which is involved in a profession wheras the experience and skills are able to be improved. Based on the preliminary study, the writer identified that there were some signs as follows: There were still some students of islamic studies departement who do not understand the learning method, there were still some students whose lacking knowledge to be professional teachers, there were still some students whose lacking knowledge of learning materials and islamic understanding. So, the problem in this study is how the readiness of students at the seventh semester of islamic studies department to be professional teachers, and the purpose of this study is to find out how the preparation of the students of islamic studies department to be professional teachers. The type of this research is quantitative descriptive. The data collection techniques used in this study are questionnaires and documentation. To obtain the data, questionnaires were distributed to 92 students. Based on the results of data processing and analysis that the writer did, it found that the readiness of students of islamic studies department to be professional teachers in the Faculty of Islamic studies of Islamic University of Riau (UIR) is at the percentage point of 66.46% or in the range of 61% - 80%, which is categorized as good or ready .
