Abstract

North Sumatra is one of the largest oil palm producing provinces in Indonesia, one of which is in Padang Lawas Regency with an oil palm plantation area of 53,803 hectares. Padang Lawas Regency has an oil palm industry, one of which is located in Hutaraja Tinggi District, namely PT. Perkebunan Nusantara IV Sosa. This study aims to determine the impact of the existence of the oil palm industry on the socio-economic conditions of the people of Hutaraja Tinggi District. This research method uses quantitative descriptive analysis method using Likert scale measurement and instrument validity and reliability tests. The results of this study show that the impact of the oil palm industry on the social aspect with indicators, improving the quality of education has a score of 79.2% in the agreeing category, improving health quality has a score of 79.6% in the agreeing category, changes in livelihoods have a score of 80% with the category Strongly agree, Social jealousy has a score of 77.6% in the agreeing category, reduced social interaction has a score of 78% in the agree category, the number of immigrants has a score of 97.8% in the category of strongly agree, changes in people's habit patterns have a score of 89% with the category strongly agree, unemployment decreases has a score of 85.8% with the category strongly agree, there is social conflict having a score of 78.6% in the agree category, increased crime has a score of 76% in the agree category, the fading of the value of togetherness has a score of 84.2% with the category strongly agree, the increase in social deviance has a score of 84.4% with the category of strongly agree, ket dream and income gap score 81.4% with very agree category, increase in consumerism behavior score 68.6% with agree category. Furthermore, for the economic aspect with an indicator of increasing people's income it has a score of 83% in the category of strongly agree, increased work opportunities have a score of 86% in the category of strongly agree, the increase in employment has a score of 84.4% in the category of strongly agree, increasing the opportunity to try to have a score 85.8% in the strongly agree category, the people's purchasing power increased by a score of 84.8% with the very agree category, increasing the welfare of the community a score of 86.6% with the category strongly agree. Based on the research results, the existence of the oil palm industry has an impact on the socioeconomic impact of the people of Hutaraja Tinggi District, both positive and negative impacts.
