Abstract

Euphemism is a form of using language styles used to soften words that are considered rude or inappropriate to be spoken or heard by others. This is done so that communication with each other continues smoothly, for example, such as discussions, debates and so on. euphemisms we often encounter the use of euphemisms in the discussion of the Mata Najwa event on Trans 7 which is used to facilitate these activities. The formulation of this problem is, how are the forms of using euphemistic language styles in the Mata Najwa program on Trans 7? With the aim of the research describing, analyzing, interpreting and concluding the use of euphemistic language styles in the Mata Najwa event on Trans 7. The theory used is Sutarman's (2017) theory with a qualitative approach. This study uses a descriptive method to describe what is based on facts. The results of this study found 95 data on the use of euphemisms in the Mata Najwa show on trans 7. Based on the forms of the use of euphemisms studied, namely: abbreviation forms were found as many as 31 data, absorption forms were found as many as 15 data, foreign terms were found as many as 12 data, metaphor forms were found as many as 16 data, and the form of periphrasis found as many as 11 data. The dominant form used in the Mata Najwa event is the abbreviated form, this happens because the form is often spoken repeatedly. While the form that is minimally used is periphrasis, this form is minimally used because not everyone is able not everyone is able to re-express the meaning of a text in writing or orally by using words or sentences that are longer than the original text to soften or disguise words.
