Abstract

The transmission functions to continue the power and rotation from one shaft to another, but rarely technicians take into account the slip on the transmission used, so that the expected output shaft rotation is not achieved. As shown in the belt and pulley transmission, the output rotation delivered to the pulley will decrease by several percent due to a slip between the belt and pulley. The decrease in the value of the rotation will increase with the increase in the weight of the load carried. This study uses a motor ¼ HP rotation of 1420 rpm, then the magnitude of the belt and pulley friction coefficient μ = 0.3. In theoretical analysis by selecting the critical factor value fc = 1.042, then the value of the rotation will change larger, the ratio i = 2.855191 then a theoretical pulley rotation can be obtained. Testing at 1,828 kg produces a driving pulley rotation of n1 = 1480 rpm and a pulley driven by n2A = 514.8 rpm, while theoretically calculating pulley rotation driven by n2T = 518.35 rpm, resulting in a rotation difference of 3.55 rpm or 0.68% due to slippage, and this value will continue to increase with increasing load mass. Then the equation can be a line graph percentage of slip relationship with changes in the mass of the load used such as; % slip = .1,761 In (m) - 1,049.
