Abstract

Coping stress is what an individual does to master a situation that is judged as a challenge, injury, loss, or threat. Coping stress refers to what people do to cope with stressful or emotionally arousing demands. Coping stress can also be said as how people react when faced with stress or pressure. Coping stress is divided into two categories, namely problem focus coping and emotional focus coping. Problem focused coping and emotional focus coping can arise in the presence of family social support. This study aims to determine the relationship of family social support with problem focus coping and emotional focus coping on students. The subjects of this study were students of SMAN 1 Pendalian IV Koto, Rohul as many as 70 subjects. The technique of taking the subject used is a saturated sample. The measuring instrument used is the scale of family social support and the scale of problem focus coping and emotional focus coping. The analysis used in this study is the Pearson product moment correlation. The results of the statistical analysis of family social support with problem focus coping showed a value of r = 0.586** with a value of Sig = 0.000 (p <0.05), meaning that there was a relationship between family social support and problem focus coping in students. And family social support with emotional focus coping showed the value of r= 0.489** with sig=0.000 (p<0.05). This means that there is a relationship between family social support and problem focused coping in students, as well as the relationship between family social support and emotional focused coping.
