Abstract
In road pavements, asphalt currently needs to be tested for samples (test objects), namely, asphalt content checks to determine the value of the asphalt content, whether it is in accordance with predetermined specifications, according to SKBI – 24.26.1987, namely the permissible asphalt content is around 4% up to 7%. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the design asphalt content by comparing the extracted asphalt content with the addition of palm fiber ash. In this study, the method used was experimentally extracting asphalt content using the 2018 Highways Specification (Revised 2), Cantrifuge Extractor as the extraction tool and pertalite as the solvent. Therefore, we need a road pavement that is environmentally friendly but also provides comfort for the rider, besides that it is also durable and inexpensive. Based on the results of the research, the optimum asphalt content was obtained 6.1%. In the extraction results there was an increase in asphalt content from the design asphalt content, namely 6.1% with a sample value of 0% = 6.1%, 50% sample = 6.3% and 100% sample = 6.6%, with a deviation of 50% samples = +0.2%, and 100% sample = +0.5%. From the extraction results above, the asphalt content obtained from the extraction is still not pure. Therefore, as an approach to the asphalt content of the extraction, the yield must be reduced by the fiber ash, namely 3.8% sample 50% and 1.6% sample 100%. From the comparison test of the extraction results, it can be concluded that the asphalt content of the samples was normal, 50% and 100% increased after being extracted. This is because the palm fiber ash, during the extraction process, is carried along with the solvent and asphalt. From the results of the reduction in the bitumen content extracted, it is smaller than the planned asphalt content, this is because the asphalt content in the pores of the aggregate has not been decomposed.
