Abstract

Scarcity and difficulty in getting clean and suitable water are problems that are starting to appear in many places, one of which is for people who live in swamp and peat areas. Contaminated water must be given a certain treatment before being used as a fulfillment of daily needs. Distillation is a change of liquid into vapor and the vapor is cooled back into liquid. Solar thermal energy is used for the evaporation process to occur in the distillation process. Solar distillation is one option that can be applied considering the availability of a lot of solar energy and can be obtained free of charge. This study aims to determine whether the height and angle of inclination of the reflector affect the performance of solar distillation and to obtain the height and angle of inclination of the flat type reflector which has the best performance on the tiered collector model of solar distillation. The flat type reflector is made of mirror material and has 3 variations in size, namely with an area of 1.5m2 (100cm x 50cm), 1.2m2 (100cm x 40cm), and 0.9m (100cm x 30cm) as well as with variations in the angle of inclination of the flat type reflector to the distillation apparatus. solar power, namely 30 , and 60 0 . This test was carried out on solar distillation with a tiered type collector model and using peat water as the test material. This research was conducted in the area of the Faculty of Engineering, Islamic University of Riau. The research will be conducted within 9 days and the highest data obtained for each variation will be taken. From the results of the study, it can be seen that the reflector height of 30 cm and a tilt angle of 30 0 is the best for the performance of solar distillation with a tiered collector model with an evaporation energy value of 51.28 Watt, a condensation energy value of 61.78 Watt, a distillation rate value of 2.18 × 10-5 Kg/s, the value of product efficiency is 27.5% and the value of the efficiency of the distillation system is 24.47%. 0 , 45 0
