Abstract
Composites are widely applied to tools that require a combination of two properties The base is strong and light. Currently, a method for making known as (conductor pellets), which can produce products and meet the criteria for electrical conductivity, both in terms of mechanical properties as well as electrical properties, the advantage is that it is economical to have high flexibility and easier to fabricate and lighter when compared to composition. This study aims to determine the effect of hardness of a mixture of silica sand with graphite and polyester as materials adhesive on mechanical properties and electrical conductivity, percentage used 80% graphite : 5% polyester : 15% silica sand, 75% graphite : 10% polyester : 15% sand silica, 65% graphite : 20% polyester : 15% silica sand. Tests carried out are microstructure test, electrical conductivity test, and compressive strength test. For the highest electrical conductivity test results are found in the specimen with a composition of 80% graphite: 5% polyester: 15% silica sand with a value of 45.51 S/cm, and the lowest electrical conductivity is found in specimens with composition 65% graphite : 20% polyester : 15% silica sand with a value of 25.85 S/Cm. whereas for the results of observations of the best microstructure and compressive strength there is on specimens with a composition of 65% graphite: 20% polyester: 15% silica sand because the arrangement of the particles is quite dense and has a compressive strength of 81.29 MPa.
