Abstract

The material commonly used as a filler in flexible pavement mixtures is stone ash, where the supply is limited and the price is relatively expensive. Therefore, there is a need for research using other alternative materials as a substitute for filler, namely palm fiber ash which is a waste from palm oil processing. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of using palm fiber ash filler in the AC-BC mixture. This research was conducted using the 2018 Highways Specification and using the Marshall Test method. The percentages of using oil palm fiber ash filler are 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%. Based on the results of the study, the optimum asphalt content was 5.67%. The larger the mixture of palm fiber ash filler composition, the lower the VMA and VIM values, while the higher the VFA value. The values of VMA, VIM and VFA still meet the requirements of the 2018 Highways Specification. The value of stability in the 0% and 25% variations has increased from 826,646 – 904,395Kg, but in the 50% to 100% variation it has decreased from 812,059 – 766,566Kg until it exceeds the required limit. Bina Marga 2018 specifications. However, the 50% variation still meets the requirements. The flow value in the 0% and 25% variation decreased from 3,93 – 3,57mm, but in the 50% to 100% variation it increased from 4,10 – 4,63mm until it exceeded the requirements of the 2018 Highways Specification. the variation of the filler used, only at variations of 0% and 25% that meet the requirements of the 2018 Highways Specification. As for the maximum variation of the oil palm fiber ash filler mixture, it is obtained at a variation of 25% with a VMA value of 117,473%, VIM of 4,780%, VFA by 72,644%, Stability of 904,395 Kg and Flow of 3,57mm.
