Abstract
ST 37 steel is a steel that has a low carbon content. The problem that is often faced with carbon steel is corrosion. Various ways are done to reduce the corrosion rate on metals, one of which is the addition of corrosion inhibitors and coating. Rice husk ash is one type of ash that is used as a corrosion inhibitor because it contains tannins. Tannins are complex compounds that are used as inhibitors to protect metals from corrosion. Rubber sap is a type of latex that has elastic properties and adhesiveness and heat resistance, so that rubber sap is very suitable for use as a coating material. This study aims to determine the effect of thick coating of rice husk ash and rubber latex on the corrosion rate of low carbon steel. The corrosion rate measurement method used is the weight loss method. The composition of the inhibitor is a ratio of 1:1 and 1:2 and is immersed for 20 days and the weight loss, corrosion rate and inhibitor efficiency are calculated on day 20. The results of the study of a good coating thickness to inhibit the corrosion rate on St 37 steel, namely the coating ratio of 1:1 at a coating thickness of 0.60 mm and for a ratio of 1:2 to a coating thickness of 1.60. The highest inhibitor efficiency at a coating ratio of 1:1 is 0.60 mm coating thickness with a value of 90,62498 %, a 1:2 coating ratio is 1.60 mm coating thickness with a value of 88.311698%.
