Abstract
During the drilling process, many factors become an obstacle, one of which is filtration loss or loss of drilling mud liquid phase. Too much liquid phase loss adversely affects drilling mud and formation, causing the mud to lose a lot of fluid and formation damage. In addition, the loss of the liquid phase of drilling mud has a great risk of danger and requires high costs in overcoming. There are several types of LCM (Lost Circulation Material) used as fliuid loss control, either from synthetic materials or organic materials. One material that is often used commercially as LCM additives in drilling is carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), but this type of additive is quite expensive. In this study used sago rumbia flour (Metroxylon sp) as an organic LCM additive that has an affordable price and environmentally friendly. Sago rumbia flour is added to the drilling mud to reduce the loss of liquid phase in the drilling mud or also known as fluid loss control. To determine the ability of sago rumbia flour as an LCM additive in overcoming filtration loss, laboratory testing is carried out by determining the rheology of drilling mud such as density, viscosity, plastic viscosity, gel strength, yield point, filtration loss and mud cake. Testing using low solid mud and mud samples were added sago rumbia flour with concentrations of 2 gr, 4 gr, 6 gr, 8 gr and 10 gr and a mixture of 350 ml of water and bentonite 22.5 gr. From the results of the tests conducted, the addition of sago Rumbia flour into the drilling mud affects the value of filtration loss and rheology of the mud. The best results were obtained on sago rumbia flour with a mass concentration of 10 g which obtained a filtration loss value of 12 ml, mud cake 1.2 mm, density 8.68 ppg, marsh funnel viscosity 59,84 s/quart, plastic viscosity 26 cp, apparent viscosity 34 cp, yield point 16 lb/100 ft2 and gel strength 0, 75 lb/100 ft2. That is, the addition of sago sago flour additives to drilling mud can be said to be effective as LCM which is useful for preventing filtration loss.
