Abstract

Discourse is the most complete and highest or largest language unit above sentences or clauses with continuous cohesion and coherence have a real beginning and end that is conveyed orally or in writing. Discourse can be found in newspapers, for example editorials. Use grammatical cohesion in the editorial of the Kompas newspaper regarding cohesion grammatical especially in pronouns and substitutions. The main problem in this study are: (1) How is the use of pronoun grammatical cohesion in the editorial of the Kompas newspaper? (2) How is the use of cohesion grammatical substitution in the editorial of the Kompas newspaper? Research purposes it is to describe and analyze the use of grammatical cohesion pronouns in the editorials of the Kompas newspaper and to describe and analyze the use of substitution grammatical cohesion in editorials Kompas newspaper. The theory used in the book Tarigan (2009), Sudaryat (2008), Mulyana (2005), and Charlina (2006). The data source of this research is from the editorial in the April 2016 edition of the Kompas newspaper published from 1 to 30 April 2016. Editorial in Kompas newspaper edition published during the month of April 2016 (Monday to Monday Saturday) except those published on Sundays are not examined because there is no header column plan. The method used in this research is prescriptive method. The data collection technique used by the author is a hermeneutic technique and documentation. The results of this study are from the overall data found in an editorial in the April 2016 edition of the Kompas newspaper there is an element of cohesion in the form of 550 pronoun data and 46 substitution data. Cohesion pronouns consisting of (1) personal pronouns (pronouns) totaling 159 data (We there are 120, They are 27, He is 10, I am 1, and We are 1), (2) demonstrative pronouns (pronouns) totaling 231 data (It is 128, This is 95, Here is 5, and There is 3). (3) the possessive pronoun (pronoun) is 158 data, and (4) the pronoun (pronoun) indefinite Para totals 2 data and elements of substitution cohesion totaling 45 data (Same totaling 10, One totaling 20, Thus totaling 11, As it amounts to 1, and As it amounts to 3) . Thus can it was concluded that the editorial in the Kompas newspaper contained no errors and have used pronoun cohesion and substitution correctly.
