Abstract

This study discusses the concept of Islamic banking in Indonesia from an Islamic perspective. The method used in this study is the Basic Theoretical Research Method. The results of this study explain that the legal basis governing Islamic banking in Indonesia is Law Number 21 of 2008 concerning Sharia Banking. Sharia banking is growing and developing in Indonesia due to the sharia system which is implemented in the real sector and is resistant to economic crises. Sharia economic system is a mandate for Muslims who must be carried out in social life, because this has been explicitly said by God in the Qur'an. So, there is no reason for Indonesia, which is predominantly Muslim, not to turn to the Islamic economic system, namely by developing Islamic banks throughout the country.
