Abstract

This study is motivated by the trending discussion topics about the progress in Islamic Economy, one of which is Islamic Financial Institutions and Banking. Among the Islamic Financial Institutions, there is a Sharia Microfinance institution, namely Baitul Maal Wat Tamwil (BMT) which has been formed during the time of the Prophet Muhammad PBUH and experienced a lot of progress from generation to generation, especially in Indonesia, both in urban and rural areas. However, behind the progress of the Islamic Microfinance Institution in Tasik Serai Timur Village, Talang Muandau District, Bengkalis Regency, there has not been any Sharia Micro Finance Institution, especially Baitul Maal Wat Tamwil (BMT). Therefore, the researcher is interested in studying on the public perception of the establishment of Baitul Maal Wat Tamwil (BMT) in Tasik Serai Timur Village, Talang Muandau District, Bengkalis Regency. The aim of this study is to investigate the public perception of the establishment of Baitul Maal Wat Tamwil (BMT) in Tasik Serai Timur Village, Talang Muandau District, Bengkalis Regency. The theoretical framework of this study is that the public perception is determined by internal factors (understanding, motivation, and personality) and external factors (intensity, size, opposites, repetition, movement, and novelty). The type of this study is field research with qualitative method. The data sources consist of primary data and secondary data. The population of this study is the Muslim community in Tasik Serai Timur Village, Talang Muandau District, Bengkalis Regency with a sample of 97 people. The sampling technique used is Simple random sampling. Meanwhile, the data collection technique used is questionnaires. The data were analyzed by transforming qualitative data into quantitative data. From the 97 respondents studied, 34% stated that they strongly agreed, 54% agreed, 12% were neutral, 0% disagreed, and 0% strongly disagreed. The average score is 398 which lies in the agree area of the continuum line. So, it can be concluded that the community "agree" with the establishment of the Baitul Maal Wat Tamwil (BMT).
