Abstract
The number of students who are accepted and the imbalance of the graduating class at Riau Islamic University has led to an increase in the construction of lecture buildings in the area of the Islamic University of Riau, so that many parking lots are converted into lecture buildings. Some of them are in the area of the Faculty of Engineering. As a result, many private vehicle users do not get a parking space so that the road body is used as a parking lot (on street parking). Problems that arise need to look for a solution to create an orderly and safe atmosphere. One solution is to build a centralized parking building. The purpose of this study is to determine the current demand for parking space requirements of the Islamic University of Riau and to recommend the SRP needs and the area of a centralized parking building. The research method used is based on the Guidelines for Planning and Operation of Parking Facilities, Directorate General of Land Transportation (1998) and the calculation of vehicle characteristics. The research was conducted on 9 December 2019 and 14 December 2019 starting at 07.00-17.00 WIB. The results of the analysis found that the number of parking lots at Riau Islamic University were 1272 locations both off street parking and on street parking with and without settings. The total base capacity of the parking lot is 144 units for cars and 1128 units for motorbikes. Parking accumulation for cars is valued at 33 units and motorbikes is 998 units. The largest parking index for cars is 0.26% and for motorbikes is 1.01%. This centralized parking building can accommodate parking lots of 216 units for cars and 2600 units for motorbikes.
