Abstract

An unsigned intersection of Sibuhuan Market is located in Sibuhuan Village, Padang Lawas Regency, North Sumatra. This intersection is an unsigned intersection that has 4 (four) arms, with 2 (two) lanes, 2 (two) lanes without a median. The high degree of saturation (DS) is caused by the increased volume of traffic flow and high side friction. And this is difficult to balance with the number of existing road facilities and infrastructure. So that this situation is the victim of the disaster at the intersection of the Sibuhuan Market, especially those with congestion or a build-up of vehicles on the lane. The purpose of this study is to determine the saturation value (DS) in the existing conditions, what alternatives are made in optimizing the signalless path of the Sibuhuan Market, how many degrees of saturation (DS) are generated from the optimization results, and how to assess the degree of saturation (DS) before and after optimization. The research technique carried out is by conducting direct field surveys during peak hours for 3 (three) days, 2 (two) busy days and 1 (one) non-busy day to obtain the necessary data such as traffic volume, geometric intersections and other data. Then the data that has been obtained are processed and analyzed using the Indonesian Road Capacity Manual (MKJI) 1997 reference. This type of research is descriptive quantitative in assessing traffic performance at intersections. The results obtained from the analysis of the existing conditions at the intersection of the Sibuhuan Market not signaled the degree of saturation (DS) = 0.86, the degree of saturation (DS) value at the intersection of four Sibuhuan Market has passed the value suggested by MKJI 1997, namely DS ≤ 0, 75. There are 4 (four) alternative steps taken to optimize the performance of the intersection, namely by minimizing side obstacles, the value of DS = 0.78, widening the minor roads to 5.10 m, the value of DS = 0.78, minimizing side obstacles and widening minor roads to become 5.10 m, the value of DS = 0.77, and changing the intersection without signal to the intersection with the value of DS = 0.58. The alternative results obtained from the analysis carried out can reduce the desired degree of saturation (DS) as suggested by MKJI 1997.
