Abstract

Pekanbaru City is one of the educational centers in Riau Province. Several well-known universities at the national level are located in this city. One of them is the University of Lamcang Kuning. Lancang Kuning University is one of the universities located in Pekanbaru, Riau Province, Indonesia. The reason for choosing this location is because there was an increase in the number of students from 2009 to 2019 with an average of 20,646 students or around 22.71% annual growth and the number of student motor vehicles from 2011 and 2014 amounted to 20.1%. The research objectives achieved in the study were to identify the characteristics of student movement. The type of research used in this study is descriptive qualitative by looking at the characteristics of student movement at Lancang Kuning University based on the distance, time, and cost used by students from their place of origin (home) to their destination (campus). On average, Lancang Kuning University students have a distance from their place of origin (home) to their destination (campus) of 5,134 Km with a minimum distance of 1.8 Km for students who are on Jalan Tewas IV and a maximum distance of 19 Km for students who are in End of Peace Road. The average travel time for Lancang Kuning University students has a travel time of 11.66 minutes with a minimum time of 4 minutes which is taken on Jalan Tewas IV and the maximum time taken by students is 36 minutes which is traveled on Jalan Damai Ujung. . The amount of costs incurred by students based on the results of the analysis is 65101.5 Rp/Km with the average cost incurred for each distance traveled by students is 1228.3 Rp/Km. The most per kilometer transportation costs incurred by Lancang Kuning University students are on Jalan Damai Ujung with transportation costs of 4845 IDR/Km. This is because students who live on the road have a distance of 38 km from origin to destination and from destination to origin which causes a lot of transportation costs incurred to make the movement. While the smallest transportation costs incurred by Lancang Kuning University students are on Jalan Tewas IV with transportation costs of 459 Rp/Km.
