Abstract
The role of the teacher is very important in students' interest in reading because the teacher is one of the determining factors for the success of their students in reading interest and must be able to adapt to various kinds of characters that can encourage students to be more enthusiastic in the process of increasing interest in reading. The purpose of this study was to describe the teacher's role in reading interest and to describe the factors that inhibit students' interest in reading. This research is a type of descriptive qualitative research. The methods used for data collection are observation, interviews, and document review. The instruments used to collect data are interview sheets and observation sheets. Based on the results of the research that has been obtained from the results of interviews and observations, it shows that students' reading interest in class II is still low, one of which is the lack of student motivation towards students' reading interest. There are many ways that teachers can do to increase students' interest in reading. The teacher's role in increasing students' reading interest is as a creator, facilitator, motivator, evaluator and dynamist
