Abstract

In learning mathematics, mathematical problem solving ability is one of the important thing for students to have. Therefore, in this research, an ethnomathematical-based Think Talk Write (TTW) strategy was used to see how it affected to the students mathematical problem solving abilities of seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Siak in the 2021/2022 academic year. This research was a Quasi-Experimental research. The design was used a nonequivalent control group design with a purposive sampling technique. The population was all students of class VII SMP Negeri 2 Siak, the samples used are class VII.4 as the experimental class and class VII.3 as the control class. The data collection technique was used a test technique in the form of pretest and posttest. The data obtained were then analyzed using descriptive analysis and inferential analysis. Based on the inferential data analysis, the posttest data were normally distributed and then the homogeneity of the variance of the data was tested and the t-test was carried out, , where is 2.06 > 1.67. This means that there is a better effect of the ethnomathematical-based Think Talk Write (TTW) strategy on the mathematical problem solving abilities of seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Siak.
