Abstract
ABSTRACT The wax component in crude oil is one of the problems that can interfere with the activities of the oil and gas industry. Wax components in hydrocarbons exist in gas, liquid and solid phases depending on pressure and temperature, when the wax solidifies it will form crystals. There are several methods that can be used to treat wax problems. In this study using a chemical method, various chemicals are used to control waxy oil such as biodiesel, benzene, toluene, and xylene. These compounds are used as solvents to dissolve wax deposits found in crude oil. This study uses biodiesel from natural ingredients crude palm oil (CPO) and the aromatic solvent BTX is also seen as a comparison with solvent biodiesel. The purpose of the study was to determine the ability of biodiesel as a solvent in dissolving wax components in crude oil and to study the relationship between temperature and volume addition of biodiesel solvent to the percentage of wax dissolution. The wax was dissolved in various volumes (5g/60 ml; 5g/80 ml; 5g/100ml) and heated at (pour point temperature, tubing temperature, bottom hole temperature). Langgak samples (40.5 C; 49.1 C; 57.7 C), EMP samples (30 C; 44 C; 65 C), PHE samples (37.8 C; 52.8 C; 62.8 C) BOB samples ( 43.3 C; 65.5 C; 88.9 C). The results showed that the percentage of dissolution loss increased with increasing temperature, while the increase in solvent volume concentration did not have a significant effect on the percentage of dissolution loss. The solubility percentage shows that biodiesel can be an effective solvent for dissolving wax components in crude oil approaching the aromatic solvent BTX. Biodiesel has a better percentage of dissolution loss at high temperatures, at the bottom hole temperature the percentage of solubility per field is above 80% on average. Sample Langgak (87%; 89.2%; 89.4%). EMP samples (85.2%; 86.4%; 86.8%). PHE samples (89.4%; 90.6%; 89%). Sample BOB (89.8%; 90.2%; 89%).
