Abstract
ESTIMATING THE GROWTH OF THE SCALE ON PRODUCTION TUBING ON HM FIELD BY USING NUMERICAL MODELLING RODHIKA AFRIANY AULIA 153210371 ABSTRACT Scale occurs due to the changes in pressure, temperature and pH so that the balance of ions exceeds its solubility and forms deposits in reservoirs, formations, or along production pipelines. The problem regarding the scale that occurs in the HM field occured due to the mixing of two incompatible water, that is injection water and formation water, in the production tubing in production well. It results occur in a sudden change in the conditions of production fluids, such as temperature, pressure, and the content of the formation water, which results in the tendency to form sulfate scales such as BaSO4 and SrSO4. The method that is used in this study is the Oddo-Tomson method. It is used to determine the saturation index (SI) on sulfate scale. This study calculated the estimated growth of the scale by using the numerical modeling of OLIScaleChem software. The software is used to determine the scaling tendency and scale solid to the effect of temperature per depth of the formation. Next, this study calculated the growth and thickness of the scale using an empirical formula to find the depositional scale that is formed on the HM field. Afterwards, it analized SO4 ions and pressure parameters that affect the growth of BaSO4 and SrSO4 scales. The calculation of BaSO4 and SrSO4 scales using the Oddo-Tomson method resulted in SI values of 2.94 and 1.89, respectively, in which the scale deposition level is very high. Scaling tendency and solid scale test produced the highest deposition of BaSO4 scale of 59.62 mg/L solid scale while the highest deposition of SrSO4 scale produced solid scale of 191.33 mg/L. Calculations using empirical formulas produced the highest value of BaSO4 scale with a scale growth value of 0.0315 lb/d/ft2 and a thickness of 7,395 in. Whereas on SrSO4 scale, the highest value of growth scale is 0.1011 lb/d/ft2 and thickness is 26.884 in. The OLIScaleChem software calculation, at 34 mg/L sulfate concentration, result in lower deposition of BaSO4 scale. Meanwhile, under the same conditions, the SrSO4 solid scale tends to not form. This condition is an ideal condition where both types of scale tend to not form.
