Abstract

The problem studied in this research is how the implementation of the Semah Ritual in Kuala Tolam Village, Pelalawan District, Pelalawan Regency, Riau Province and the values contained therein. The purpose of this study aims to collect information and data about how the implementation and values that exist in the Ritual of Semah. The theory used is in accordance with Soedarsono (2002:88) the implementation of rituals usually every ceremony will include the time, the right, the offerings, and the person who performs the ceremony. Religious Values according to the Hamidy Law (2014: 48) religious values are values that are seen as being above other values. Customary Values according to Law Hamidy (2014: 51) customary values are values that provide provisions on how humans must act and behave, as well as with a series of fairly firm sanctions. Tradition Values according to the Hamidy Law (2014: 57) traditional values are human behavior and actions that always continue from one generation to the next. Social Values according to Parjiyana (2016: 34) states that social value is a set of interacting social values or social groups that have the same values, norms, and goals. The method used in this study, the authors use descriptive analysis method using qualitative data. Then the data obtained through observation, interviews and documentation. The results of the research in this ritual are carried out if someone who is sick is disturbed by supernatural beings or it can be done if there are people who want to open a forest to make buildings such as wanting to build a house, a place for implementation at the village head's house, implementation time at 16.00-17.30, conditions -requirements in the Ritual of Semah. The values contained in the Semah Ritual: Religious values, namely when Semah the shaman recites mantras that begin with reading "Bissmillahirrohmanirrohim" in order to help heal sick people who are disturbed by evil creatures, Traditional Values are the habits of residents who carry out the Semah Ritual, Traditional Values, namely the Semah Ritual, are still carried out from generation to generation, and Social Values, namely that residents are still enthusiastic to help, work together to carry out the process of implementing the Semah Ritual.
