Abstract

This study aims to find out how the role of parents in motivating children's learning besides the purpose of this study is to find out what obstacles are experienced by parents in motivating children's learning. This research uses a qualitative approach which is a case study. The data sources of this research are 1 class IV teacher, 2 parents, and 2 students. Data collection techniques and instruments, in this case the researcher uses interviews and observations, focused data analysis using the Miles & Huberman model, namely data reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions. There are three results obtained, first, parents as facilitators, namely parents fulfill children's needs such as a comfortable study room for children, books, stationery, tables, chairs, and lighting, secondly parents act as motivators for children, parents give praise, parents give gifts and parents provide assistance, and thirdly parents as mentors, provide guidance on each child's learning activities, parents monitor and direct children in the learning process. Barriers experienced by parents in motivating children's learning, among others, during learning at home due to the impact of covid-19, the role of parents has increased. Previously, children studied at school and now children study at home, so that the role of parents increases to control children's learning activities at home , children play mobile phones more often, children become lazy to study and children play with their friends.
