Abstract
Drilling is the most essential activity in oil and gas firms in terms of a job. This is a drilling activity that may be considered a forecast regarding the presence of these oil and gas reserves. Rubber fruit shell is a material that has been known as a less useful material. The activation process is carried out by channeling H2O steam for 1 to 3 hours during the process of creating activated carbon. Characterization of activated carbon is done using FTIR, XRD, and SEM. Based on the test results on the mud sample without the addition of the active carbon mass, the filtrate volume was 12.5 ml, and the thickness of the mud cake was 2 mm, while the addition of the active carbon mass of 2 grams – 10 grams obtained a lower filtrate volume and the thickness of the mud cake about 1.78 mm – 1.35 mm. The results of the rheology test on the sample without any addition of the active carbon mass obtained a plactic viscosity value of 3 cp, a yield point of 14 cp, and a gel strength of 0.14 (lb/100ft2 ) while the viscosity value was 21.07 second. The greater the value attained, the more the active carbon mass there is. The plastic viscosity is 5 cp – 12 cp, the yield point is 15 cp – 23 cp, and the gel strength is 0.25 (lb/100ft2 ) – 0.5 (lb/100ft2 ) with a viscosity of 23.75 second – 27.45 second with the addition of 2 grams – 10 grams of the active carbon
