Abstract

The TGT type of cooperative learning model is able to influence students to be able to learn actively, creatively so that it is suspected that they can improve students' mathematical critical thinking abilities. This study aims to determine the effect of the Teams Games Tournaments (TGT) cooperative learning model on the ability to think critically mathematically at class VIII of SMP Negeri 13 Pekanbaru in the academic year 2019/2020. This research is a quasiexperimental study (Quasi Experiment) with research design The Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The population in this study were all students of class VIII SMP Negeri 13 Pekanbaru as many as 312 students. Sampling in this study used a purposive sampling technique. The sample in this study were 62 students, for the experimental class were 30 students and for the control class were 32 students. Data collection instruments are a matter of pretest and posttest mathematical critical thinking skills. Data collection technique is a test technique. Data analysis techniques used are descriptive analysis and inferential analysis. This study shows that students' mathematical critical thinking skills using the Teams Games Tournaments (TGT) cooperative learning model are better than students who use conventional learning, because TGT learning activities involve the ability of students to use games and matches, if they can answer correctly given awards. For t-test obtained that is . Then it can be said that H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. So it can be concluded that there is an influence of the Teams Games Tournaments (TGT) type of cooperative learning model on the ability of mathematical critical thinking of class VIII students of SMP Negeri 13 Pekanbaru.
